Drug and alcohol addiction rehab programmes are available from both a religious and secular point of view. Where secular rehab is concerned, both inpatient and outpatient services focus on the physical and psychological aspects of addiction without addressing the spiritual or moral. It is an option some addicts prefer.
We should note that secular rehab is neither superior nor inferior to religious rehab. It is just another choice addicts have available to them. Secular rehab is provided by charitable organisations, private rehab clinics, the NHS, and independent support groups. Our job is to help you sort it all out.
When an individual comes to terms with the fact that he or she needs help for drug abuse or addiction, searching through all of the options can be time consuming and confusing. We make it easier to get the help you need by doing the legwork for you.
Our free and confidential services take into account that every addict is a unique individual with unique needs. Simply put, we do not believe there is a single treatment option that works successfully for everyone. We believe it is far better to custom design a rehab treatment plan based on every client’s unique circumstances. To that end, we work with clinics and service providers all over the UK.
Your Commitment Is Essential
Sometimes people make the incorrect assumption that secular rehab programmes are somehow easier than their more religious counterparts are. Nothing could be further from the truth. Successful rehab always requires some measure of discomfort and hard work in order to succeed. Rehab is never easy, regardless of the philosophy behind it.
What does this mean to you? It means that your attitude is paramount to your success. If you are not willing to do whatever it takes to overcome addiction once and for all, you are not likely to achieve long-term abstinence. Moreover, as you probably know, long-term abstinence is the only real cure for addiction.
On the other hand, if you enter a secular rehab programme with a willingness to do whatever is asked of you, you stand a greater chance of succeeding. The good news is that a typical residential programme can be completed in 12 weeks or less. That’s not a long time when you consider that it enables you to take control of the rest of your life.
Here’s what you can expect from most secular rehab programmes:
-
Detox – Where a well-established physical addiction exists, detox will be necessary to break it. At a private clinic, medically supervised detox is the norm. Experts recommend addicts never attempt detox on their own because of potentially dangerous withdrawal symptoms.
-
Rehab – The portion of the programme specifically designated as rehab involves many weeks of therapeutic services. Therapies can include individualised counselling, group counselling, education in life skills, group support, and recreational activities. Rehab is designed to deal with the psychological and emotional aspects of addiction.
-
Aftercare – Upon completion of a residential programme, the recovering addict is reintegrated into society and allowed to return home. However, that does not mean treatment is over. He or she will continue to receive follow-up by way of aftercare that can last several months. Aftercare provides additional support to help prevent relapse.
As we said earlier, successful rehab is an uncomfortable experience that requires work. There is no easy way to break an addiction to drugs or alcohol. If you are willing to undergo a few months of discomfort, you can be free of addiction for the rest of your life.
Inpatient or Outpatient
Secular rehab programmes can be offered both as inpatient or outpatient services. We typically recommend inpatient services because they offer a better chance of long-term success. Outpatient services through the NHS and other organisations do not tend to be as successful. There are far too many distractions for the addict to the deal with.
Where the NHS is specifically concerned, outpatient services have some additional disadvantages. One of those disadvantages lies in the fact that NHS services are oversubscribed. This results in a waiting time that could be weeks or months. In the meantime, addicts have plenty of time to change their minds about seeking any treatment at all. Private clinics operating on an inpatient basis can usually get treatment started in 24 hours.
Understand that we are not attempting to disparage the NHS. It is just that the NHS is tasked with a mission so broad that it cannot devote a lot of time and resources to drug and alcohol rehab. Not only that but the money is just not there. Private clinics are funded by charging for the services they provide. That allows them to focus all of their resources on helping clients overcome.
That said, some private clinics also offer outpatient services if those are a better option for clients. Nevertheless, their outpatient services are still more focused and more successful than those offered by the NHS. A private clinic is your best bet if funding is available. Funding options include:
-
private health insurance
-
donations from friends and family
-
credit cards or personal loans
-
charitable grants (when available).
Even if you think you cannot afford secular rehab programmes through a private clinic, we urge you to call us anyway. Our clients are often surprised at how affordable private rehab can be. If there is a way we can get you into one of these programmes, we will find it.
